yo all! just went for my 2nd "scrapbooking class" yesterday at "MadeWithLove" with Chris and Amy...signed up last minute, but it's definitely WORTH IT...IT WAS JUST SO FUN. i find it even better than SDU's class cos the trainer is more friendly and can really see the passion in her. Her name is Kelly---a young, sweet and inspiring teacher. She really inspires me a lot with her ideas.

This class---called "beyond basics"---- is designed for those who has completed the beginner's class (which may not be necessary) and would want to learn more in terms of scrapbooking techniques.

When we first entered the room, wat caught our eyes were 4 brown plastic files ...but they r nothing like those files we see in those 'courses' or 'seminars' which bore us to death. Each file contains 3-pages of notes...very useful notes i would say. here are what i have learnt from the class:

1.colour theory: different colours have different meanings. colour can set mood, creat order and convey emotion... therefore the colour plays an important role in scrapbooking. the right choice of colour makes everything fall in place.

2.positive and negative emphasis: the choice of colour also depends on what we want to focus for each photo. e.g.if the person in the photo wears a red top and the background is green. and if you want to bring out the person, not the background, then the choice of colours should be green instead of red. (o/w the person will "blend" into the page)

3.patterned papers: there are 5 main catogories of patterned papers, namely, stripes, circle, floral, text and geometric. when selecting patterned paper, we need to draw colours from the subjects of the photo. e.g. if the person is wearing a floral dress, then you may wanna choose a similar patterned paper with floral design.

4.visual weight of diff patterned papers: there are 2 main categories: heavy-weight and light-weight. in short, heavy-weight patterned paper should be placed near to the bottom of the page (heavy matters sink!)

5.true-centre VS visual centre: "true centre" refers to the "centre" of the page while "visual centre" refers to the right of and slightly higher than the true centre. we should place the photo on the visual centre and it naturally becomes the focal point of the page.

6.visual triangle and the Letter "Z": arranging n positioning the key elements of the page in a "triangular" or "Z" pattern is pleasing for the eyes too. besides, our eyes also like "odd numbers", so we should utilize embellishments in that manner.

besides theories, we also learnt the differnt techniques used for paper differentiation:

1.tearing

2.inking

3.sanding

4.stitching

it's fun to play around with the inkpad and it's precisely wat i wanted to learn.......to give the paper a "worn out" look...great for old/childhood photos. :)

with all the theory n practical (we made TWO pages), dun u tink it's impossible to cover everything in a 3-hr class? ...and dat's why we actually ended at 830pm instead of 530pm....3hrs+3hrs---> 6 hrs!!!!!!

i must say that i realli like the shop ...they are just so generous ...oh ya, they gave us a complimentary drink too. and they allow us to try out ANYTHING (except for papers la)...it's a great place to go with frens.

Finally, here're the "masterpiece" i completed from the class...the 1st one (without any photo) is done as "class work" ,the theme is christmas... and the 2nd one is done with photos which we brought along. i have chosen my childhood photos again. (thanks dad for digging them out for me.) it's me n my bro this time :P...he changed so much...doesn't look de same anymore, except for the fair complexion. hee (which i envy alot :P)

p.s.Monday, chris, chuiyi and i would be going for the "happy" class at SDU. hope it's good.

till next time!
